How to use Primers and Sealers

priming
Primers provide a somewhat coarse, textured surface which paint can stick to.

  • Use on unpainted surfaces, or painted surfaces repaired with patching plaster or joint compound.
  • Use on dark or bright coloured surfaces that are to be re-painted in a lighter colour.
Sealers are used to coat porous surfaces to prevent too much paint being absorbed into the surface.
  • Use to create a barrier against moisture.
  • Use to coat bare woods including those that will bleed through paint.
  • Use to coat masonry surfaces like unglazed blocks, bricks, and concrete.
  • Allow for a smoother, more even, brighter finish after painting.
