Backyard Life

Most people enjoy the outdoors. Getting close to the trees, flowers, vines, grass and even the dirt gives us some primal pleasure. That’s why many of us spend so much time in our backyards, when we have one.

The yard has a life of its own that is made more enjoyable when we design it to suit our outdoor needs. Mother Nature is perfect in God’s eyes, but we mortals can always find a way to put our own stamp on whatever piece of it we own.

It’s in man’s nature to want to mold our outdoor environment can to create the vibe we choose. Most of us want a calm and relaxing atmosphere at home, which, of course, extends to our yard space.

Decorating our outdoor space can follow the same logic as what we do indoors. For many people, the first order of business is creating a rest area. Nothing beats taking a nap outside in the wonderful outdoors. And the perfect item for your backyard R&R spot is a hammock. There’s something that is peaceful and utterly relaxing about falling asleep with a gentle rock. If you don’t have trees to tie a hammock, perhaps nice lounge chairs or a well-made bench will do it for you.

For your outdoor living area, you might want to get a neat steel/wicker set, with seating six Those sets for four always seem too small and the eight seat sets are often too large. Footstools help the relaxation vibe you’re aiming for.

Of course, the backyard is almost useless if there is no cooking area. Even the most sophisticated barbeque grills are more affordable these days. Having friends or family over and doing a cookout is perhaps the best way to use the back yard. Just be careful with the fire agents so you avoid accidents.

Now if you really want to jazz up your back yard you might want to install a Jacuzzi in a nice cool area hidden by trees. It’s a great way to enjoy our outdoor environment and enjoy the company of our friends.

Other ways to decorate the back yard and improve its esthetics include putting sculptures that are appropriate and installing a pond or a water feature.

Finally, don’t forget the music; it’s your vibe enabler. No need to take the stereo outside, just put a speaker or two from your indoor stereo or idoc.

Now that you’ve brought some life to the backyard it’s time to put some human life in it! Invite people over, and instead of packing them up in the house on a bright but cool sunny day take them outside. Have a cook-out, barbeque, small get together or a mini camp sleep over (the kids will love that), make sure you stock up on insect repellent.

When it rains you’re inside when it’s wonderfully sunny, but cool, you have a choice!
